This piece was a part of a class project where students were instructed to take a series of photos that followed a theme. I chose to imitate a vintage style, and this photo is meant to emulate the nostalgia of community pools. I utilized the editing app VSCO, and my process consisted of desaturating the image, deepening the shadows, and adding a slight grain effect.

Firstly, as a class we were taking pictures for macro and light photography. It had just recently snowed and I saw a feather, and feathers are pretty fancy.
So I went outside to a bush and put the feather on the bush. Getting close to the bush using a macro lens at first but then deciding that using just the iPad was going to look better.
I edited the photo using Photopea and Pixlr. I increased the color of blue slightly

To capture this image, I first researched interesting ideas for using light in creative ways. I saw these neat photos where people were using lace and odd objects to shine shadows on a subject and knew I wanted to create something similar. I found a handmade blanket at my house that had a really large open weave and knew that would work well.
Then, on a bright sunny day, I took my friend out for a photo shoot with the blanket. We did a bunch of different photos using the shadows in different ways, this image was one of my favorites. I set my camera to a small aperture setting so the light didn’t overexpose my image.
Once I was back in class and could edit in Photoshop, I increased the contrast of the image to make the values more dramatic and then converted it to black and white.

To capture this photo, I was riding around Cincinnati with friends admiring the graffiti and murals on the buildings, when I realized it would be a great background for some portraits. Since my friends were with me, we decided to take some photos on different backgrounds with different positions and poses.
The sun wasn’t out and it was cloudy so I captured my photos using diffused lighting which is softer and more subtle. We did several shots of them together and a few on their own. I wanted the photos to look almost candid, like I had captured them without them knowing. That’s why he is looking at her and not at the camera, yet she looks at the camera which grabs the attention of anyone who views the image.
Once I got home, I edited my photos in Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop, I increased the brightness and contrast, used the spot healing brush tool for blemishes on the faces, and added a darker vignette around the perimeter of the photo.

To create this photo, I used my Olloclip lens kit for my iPhone camera. I went into my backyard and the surrounding woods area to look for possible subjects for my images. Upon finding this spider, I loved the colors on him and in the area around him. After attaching my lens, I was able to achieve a very shallow depth of field by getting extremely close to the spider, blurring the area around him. After capturing the image, I edited the photo on my phone slightly by increasing the light and colors. Overall, I’m happy with this image and how it came out.

I captured this photo by using portrait settings on my camera to achieve a very strong depth of field so the piece was focused in on the model. I also made sure to capture this moment in a raw format. Next, I adjusted things in photoshop such as the cool and warm tones, exposure, brightness, shadows, highlights, and clarity. Then, I adjusted the curves and levels on my image as well as clearing up some small blemishes on the models face. Lastly, I used selective coloring to adjust and choose what I want certain colors and tones to be in order to portray the feeling and movement that I want within my piece.

ORIGINAL PHOTO - ENTRY 1 - DAYLILY
Iggy Wirasakti
Process:
I captured this image during the summer of 2017 in my front yard. I used my iPhone 6S camera along with a 10X Olloclip macro lens attachment. I have grown my own garden specifically for macro photography for plants and my local invertebrates. The garden primarily consists of day lilies, and I often see numerous species of insects such as Chinese Mantis and Katydids. These flowers are about a foot above the ground, so I was able to lay on the ground to minimize camera shake. I did not edit this photo so I could preserve the natural look of the day lily’s anthers.

ORIGINAL PHOTO - ENTRY 2-STILL LIFE
Taylor Jenkins
Process:
I went into my dad’s closet and collected objects that complimented each other and had a connection to me and my dad. It had just rained so the wood on my deck was darker and it made for the perfect background. The wood added a great contrast to the objects and created the perfect textural quality I needed for the still life objects. I arranged them so they had a nice balance of color and sizes in a rectangular format. I went into Photoshop and added very light editing, by slightly adjusting the saturation and contrast.
